The Data Marathon is under way. Are you up for the challenge?
To everyone with an @pasteur.fr inbox and data hosted on campus servers, the Data Marathon starts on October 2!
The CeRIS, Information Systems Department (DSI), Information Systems Security Division (SSI), CSR/RSE Department and Digital section in the GreenTeam have joined forces to support you throughout the challenge. Through each stage, you will find resources, practical advice and tools to learn how to sort, archive and delete emails and documents effectively, while adopting digital best practices.
The marathon will involve several stages over the next few months, all with the same aim: to improve clarity and efficiency and take a more responsible approach to managing digital data.
Stage 1: email inboxes!
From October 2 to 30, 2026, the first test is email management – an individual challenge but a shared ambition!
Two targets to achieve:
1. Sort through your emails to clear space
Delete any emails you don't need so that you can reduce the storage space used and the energy required to preserve your data.
Be careful – there's no need for a hasty radical clear-out! Before deleting emails, take time to check them. The idea is for a smart declutter, not to get rid of everything!
2. Archive what you need to keep
Identify and archive emails that are still useful, in line with in-house regulations and best practices, especially those sent out by the CeRIS and SSI.
It's not all about gigabytes – the three winners will be selected based on their written or video testimonial explaining their method, the best practices they used and how they plan to keep up their good habits. Because winning this marathon isn't just about deleting as much data as possible, but learning to filter your emails smartly, without losing useful information!
Next comes the collective challenge
In November, a second stage will begin. This time it will involve teams, with a new challenge for data stored on campus servers.
