Reminder - awareness sessions on high-risk dual-track research
High-risk dual-use research encompasses projects that, in the event of misuse or an incident, could have unacceptable consequences for human or animal health or the environment. This applies to research outputs as well as the associated knowledge and technologies. Examples include projects that could lead to the creation of more virulent pathogens that evade diagnosis or are resistant to treatments and vaccines.
In this context, the Pasteur Institute has established a process for monitoring projects classified as such in order to better assess risks, share responsibility between researchers and the institution, and comply with funders’ requirements.
To best raise awareness of these issues among research teams and support staff, awareness-raising sessions will be organized in the fall. Following a brief presentation on the issues at hand, participants will be invited to take on the role of committee members tasked with evaluating dual-use research projects and proposing recommendations.
If you believe you may be involved in this type of research—whether you are an engineer, doctoral student, postdoctoral fellow, researcher, unit head, or work in a support role (with a master’s degree in science or higher)—the Legal Department is offering a half-day practical awareness workshop:
