Round table on "International clinical trials: ethical challenges" on November 16

In connection with the Côte d'Ivoire Ethics Capacity Building Initiative II project (CECaBI II), funded by the European and Developing Countries Clinical Trials Partnership (EDCTP), the Institut Pasteur will be hosting a round table on the ethical challenges of clinical trials conducted in multiple countries, on November 16 at 5pm in the François Jacob auditorium.

The aim of the CECaBI II project, co-funded by the European Union, is to improve the practice of clinical trials in Côte d'Ivoire in both regulatory and ethical terms. The project will pursue several objectives: strengthening the management and supervision of clinical trials and research ethics capabilities; developing a quality assurance and management framework; introducing a digital framework for operations; and providing training for scientists and members of ethics committees.

The consortium is led by André Offianan Touré, Chair of the National Committee for Ethics in Life Sciences and Health (CNESVS) in Côte d'Ivoire; Audrey Dindji Kodia, Head of Department in the Côte d'Ivoire Authority for Pharmaceutical Regulation (AIRP); Samba Cor Sarr, Vice-Chair of the National Ethics Committee for Health Research (CNERS) in Senegal; Francis Kombe from EthiXPERT in South Africa; and Fanny Momboisse from the Department of Ethics and Bioethics in the Legal Affairs Department at the Institut Pasteur.

Participants in the round table will be Dafna Feinholz, Chief of UNESCO's Bioethics and Ethics of Science and Technology Section, André Offianan Touré, Samba Cor Sarr, and Professor Jean-Michel Molina, Medical Director at the Institut Pasteur. Driven by exchanges with the audience, the round table will explore the ethical challenges involved in organizing clinical trials from the perspective of both ethics committees and research institutions and teams.

It will be followed by a cocktail reception in the greenhouse so that the discussions can be continued in a more informal setting.
