The Department for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) is pleased to invite you to a seminar (in French) led by Martin Sarzier, an assistant professor at Sciences Po (Paris) and a researcher at the Center for the Sociology of Organizations, on Wednesday September 16 from 10.30 to 11.30am in the François Jacob auditorium.

"Academic age," "young" researchers, "junior" professors, "senior" researchers – academia is structured by age categories, much like many other social spaces. Although the "excellence" of a researcher is often judged based on early achievement, it is clear that access to certain positions, funding, awards or honors is subject to age-based conditions, whether explicit or implicit. Are academic careers organized on the basis of ageist principles? Or does the field of science actually work in favor of more "advanced" researchers, who are valued for their "experience"? The aim of this session is to reflect on the inequalities and age-related power relations found in academia. It will particularly look at the way in which age-based discrimination, together with gender discrimination, affects scientific careers.
